Attention 6th and 7th Graders:
If you are interested in being a part of the Magnolia Student Council for the 2018-2019 school year, pick up an application in the office. The available positions are 8th grade president, 8th grade vice-president, 7th grade president, 7th grade vice-president, public relations officer, treasurer, and secretary. Applications are due back to Mrs. Lavelle by May 14th.
 
This week before school we are having a plant sale in front of the office. There will be a variety of vegetable and flower starts for $3.00 each. Sierra Harvest provides all of these plants to local schools. The proceeds will help towards the cost of our Harvest of the Month program. Please come and support this program and pick up a plant for your garden.

State Testing: California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP), will begin this week.  Sixth graders begin testing Wednesday, May 2nd, 7th graders begin Wednesday, May 9th, and 8th graders begin Wednesday, May 16th.  

Whether you agree or disagree with standardized test, the political reality is that the quality of a Magnolia education is judged by these tests.  Data from these assessments are used by the school to identify deficiencies Magnolia may have in our curriculum and/or instruction; thus guiding our future professional development for teachers and curriculum choices.  These test measure both your student's academic growth and their progress toward achieving grade level standards.  CAASPP results combined with other data are used to develop strategies to target interventions in academic areas that a student has not demonstrated proficiency.

Please encourage your student to put forth their best effort!  We need an accurate measure of your child's skills and knowledge to evaluate Magnolia's effort to provide a quality education to the students of our community.

 
Yearbook:
Don't miss out! Order your yearbooks now! Yearbooks are still available to purchase online at jostens.com. $40 for a hard cover or $25 for a soft cover. Limited quantities are available so don't delay.

School Safety Meeting:
In response to recent concerns regarding school safety, there will be a South County School Safety Forum on Monday, May 7th from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at the Bear River High School theater.  

We will have representation from:
·        Nevada County Sheriff’s Office
·        California Highway Patrol
·        Higgins Fire Department
·        Nevada County Office of Emergency Services
·        Nevada County Superintendent of Schools Office
·        South County School Administrators

All parents and community members are invited to attend.  You will learn about what plans and procedures are in place to ensure the safety of our students, and what you can/should do in the case of a school emergency.
 
 
Bus Circle: Please do not park or pull up in the bus circle at ANY time during the school day.
  

Parents: Please be prepared to show a picture ID when checking your student out during the school day.

Homework Club:
Tuesday / Friday - 8:00am - 8:45am in room A-1
Wednesday - 3:30pm - 4:15pm in room B-10
Thursday - 8:00 am - 8:45 in room A-4  most weeks.  Please check the bulletin and Magnolia calendar.

Monday through Thursday school starts at 9:05 and is dismissed at 3:15

Friday school starts at 9:05 and is dismissed at 2:25

Minimum Day Schedule school is dismissed at 1:20 

Sports:

Track and Field: Season practices will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays from 3:30-5:00  Scheduled season 4/3-5/10.
