6th & 7th Graders: Drama Auditions are next week for the 2018 – 2019 school year! If you are interested in the performing arts, would like to have fun being creative with friends, be a part of the spring production, and make a movie, then Theatre Arts is the class for you. Theatre Arts is a yearlong class that you must audition for to be accepted - no experience is necessary! You need to attend a short informational meeting at the beginning of lunch break Wednesday, 5/9, in the drama room, D1, to receive your audition piece – or see me at lunch any day this week. If you cannot attend the informational meeting then you must see me before auditions to get your audition piece and signature page. Primary auditions will be during lunch on both Tuesday and Thursday, 5/15 and 5/17. If you have a conflict, you may make special arrangements with me to audition either before school or at lunch the following week.
Parents' Corner:
State Testing: California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP), will begin this week. Sixth graders begin testing Wednesday, May 2nd, 7th graders begin Wednesday, May 9th, and 8th graders begin Wednesday, May 16th.
Whether you agree or disagree with standardized test, the political reality is that the quality of a Magnolia education is judged by these tests. Data from these assessments are used by the school to identify deficiencies Magnolia may have in our curriculum and/or instruction; thus guiding our future professional development for teachers and curriculum choices. These test measure both your student's academic growth and their progress toward achieving grade level standards. CAASPP results combined with other data are used to develop strategies to target interventions in academic areas that a student has not demonstrated proficiency.
Please encourage your student to put forth their best effort! We need an accurate measure of your child's skills and knowledge to evaluate Magnolia's effort to provide a quality education to the students of our community.
Parents: Please be prepared to show a picture ID when checking your student out during the school day.
Wednesday - 3:30pm - 4:15pm in room B-10
Thursday - 8:00 am - 8:45 in room A-4 most weeks. Please check the bulletin and Magnolia calendar.
