Food Access Saturday:

Saturday August 14,  will be the next United Way Food Access Saturday. The Food Access Saturday program was originally created to help working individuals & families who need help putting food on their table, but are unable to pick up food at local food distributions during the week. Since it began, the program has grown to encompass a larger population; welcoming others to the table. Through the Food Access Saturday program, anyone who needs food can pick up healthy groceries, including fresh produce. The program is open to all Nevada County residents who cannot make it to other food distributions Monday through Friday. United Way of Nevada County, in partnership with Interfaith Food Ministry (IFM) distributes food on the second Saturday of each month. Since its inception, nearly 3800 bags of food have been distributed to more than 1700 individuals and families. United Way of Nevada County strives to assure individuals and families in Nevada County are able to meet their basic need for food, emergency shelter and access to health care. The distributions take place at 440 Henderson Street, in Grass Valley, from 10am-noon on the 2nd Saturday of each month.

Parents Corner:

All Parents, please see the information below regarding College Savings Plan:

ScholarShare 529, California’s College Savings Plan:

Financial preparation is an important part of college readiness. As the cost of pursuing a postsecondary education continues to rise, families need to be aware of all the resources and tools available to help them save so that higher education remains an accessible goal. In recognition of National 529 College Savings Day on May 29, 2021, we are providing important information about ScholarShare 529, a highly successful state program designed to help families save for their children’s future higher education expenses, as well as an upcoming special week-long promotion for students and their schools. We ask that you share this important information with your students’ teachers, parents, guardians, and other interested parties.

529 college savings plans, such as California’s ScholarShare 529 program (named after the section of the Internal Revenue Code in which the plans were established), provide families with a valuable tool that offers a diverse set of investment options; tax-deferred growth; and withdrawals free from state and federal taxes when used for qualified higher education expenses such as tuition and fees, books, certain room and board costs, computer equipment, and other required supplies.  Please use the link below for more detailed information.

On April 29th, 2021, the FCC announced that on May 12, 2021, eligible households will be able to apply for the Emergency Broadband Benefit. The Emergency Broadband Benefit is a temporary FCC program to help households struggling to afford internet service during the pandemic. Eligible households will be able to enroll in the program to receive a monthly discount off the cost of broadband service from an approved provider. Please click the title ("Emergency Broadband Benefit") above for more information.

Food Access Saturday:

Saturday June 12th,  will be the next United Way Food Access Saturday.

8th grade field day
**8th Grade Field Day Update***
Hello parents of 8th grade students, field day will take place 3 weeks from today (Wednesday, June 9, 10am-1pm, lower Magnolia field). Exciting!!  There is still time to sign up.  Your commitment of time to interact and direct students is beneficial in many ways.  First, your student and their “besties” will love seeing you there at the event, especially after a tough year of schooling.  Second, other parents who you haven’t seen in a while will see your name and sign up too!  Last, the more people who sign up, the more fun the kids will have, any stations left open by June 4th will be cancelled.  At this time, 4 out of the 10 stations are completely open.  If there is a station that you see, but want to “tweak it,” reach out and e-mail ([email protected]) with your change, easy-peasy!  Here’s the link to sign up:
As always, if you’ve already signed up and committed to making this event great, thank you!
