Saturday May 8th,  will be the next United Way Food Access Saturday. The Food Access Saturday program was originally created to help working individuals & families who need help putting food on their table, but are unable to pick up food at local food distributions during the week. Parents of Hybrid/Blended Students:

Please log in to your parent portal and read and sign the Parent Agreement. We are going into uncharted territories and we need your help. Everything that we have learned about the prevention of COVID-19 has indicated that we are only as strong as our weakest link. We, as a district, have worked hard to create systems that minimize the risks to our students and staff, but there may still be risk present. Please sign that you will take the following steps to keep the whole community safe and allow use to continue to offer in-person classes with our students. Daily Symptom Checklist

I/We will commit...

  • to complete the daily symptom check of my student before I place them on a bus or send them to campus
  • to notify my student's school if there are any health concerns and take the steps outlined in the Daily Symptom Checklist.
  • to sending my child to school with a mask and support the school in making sure all students are compliant in all safety protocols.
  • I understand that even with all safety precautions that are being taken, there is always the risk that exposure to COVID-19 may occur.

Thank you for supporting our schools.

Updates for Teacher Appreciation Week

****Teacher Appreciation Week****
Amazing!!!  The gift card donation drive for Tuesday, May 4th's "Game Ball" activity is over halfway fulfilled after just one day of being "live."  It feels so good to do good.  Thank you to all who have pledged their help thus far and thanks for "hanging in there" and waiting for info on the Friday "Tailgate Thank You" lunch.
Here is the second way parents can treat the staff members at Magnolia School.  See the link below to "Perfect Potluck" to sponsor a bagged lunch for the teachers/staff for only $12.  This sign-up is merely two steps.  Step one: click on the link and sign up for the teacher/staff member you want to sponsor for lunch.  Step two: Go to PayPal.com and send $12 to [email protected].  Boom!  You've done it!
A note to consider.  While the district/school is recognized as a non-profit organization, PayPal still has convenience fees assigned with use.  There are two options when you check out, one option will "cost" the PTM more money per transaction on the receiving end.  Will you help us out and be mindful of your choice?  Much appreciated!
The deadline to participate is Friday, April 30th.
Sign up to sponsor a Gristmill customized "bagged lunch” here:

More info next week as to how your student can get involved in thanking a special teacher/staff member on Wednesday, May 5th's "Fan Mail" activity.

Saturday May 8th,  will be the next United Way Food Access Saturday. The Food Access Saturday program was originally created to help working individuals & families who need help putting food on their table, but are unable to pick up food at local food distributions during the week. Since it began, the program has grown to encompass a larger population; welcoming others to the table. Through the Food Access Saturday program, anyone who needs food can pick up healthy groceries, including fresh produce. The program is open to all Nevada County residents who cannot make it to other food distributions Monday through Friday. United Way of Nevada County, in partnership with Interfaith Food Ministry (IFM) distributes food on the second Saturday of each month. Since its inception, nearly 3800 bags of food have been distributed to more than 1700 individuals and families. United Way of Nevada County strives to assure individuals and families in Nevada County are able to meet their basic need for food, emergency shelter and access to health care. The distributions take place at 440 Henderson Street, in Grass Valley, from 10am-noon on the 2nd Saturday of each month.

Harvest of the Month:

This Week Students will be tasting Tat Soi from feeding Crane Farm in Penn Valley.  Did you know that tat soi is referred to by a Cantonese word meaning "drooping Vegetable"  , tat soi can survive in weather as cold as 15 degress.
Tat Soi is an excellent source of vitamin A,C, And K, plus calcium, and potassium.

Please provide feedback for future goals.

Physical Education: Students are going to develop their physical abilities through a movement oriented program. There will not be in-person instruction but rather only distance learning physical education.  We will gain the benefits of physical activity and developing healthy habits together virtually through their Google Classroom.

Google Classroom

This is where you will see the syllabus, assignments, activities, videos and communication.  Students can access this through their google email and going to the waffle (google applications). Please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Griffin through google classroom or email [email protected]. Physical Activity Log (PAL): There will be an activity log put into google classroom and will also be available in hard-copy in the school office.  The PAL will be worth the majority of your grade.  25 Points for each weekly log. See attached. Students will be required to participate in moderate-vigorous exercise for at least 30-40 minutes five days a week. This will vary between required workouts posted in google classroom and student’s choice.
