The route list for the bus stops at Alta Sierra, Cottage Hill, and Magnolia is attached. Families must have already filled out a ridership contract in order for their students to ride the bus.

Physical Education: Students are going to develop their physical abilities through a movement oriented program. There will not be in-person instruction but rather only distance learning physical education. We will gain the benefits of physical activity and developing healthy habits together virtually through their Google Classroom.

Google Classroom

This is where you will see the syllabus, assignments, activities, videos and communication. Students can access this through their google email and going to the waffle (google applications). Please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Griffin through google classroom or email [email protected]. Physical Activity Log (PAL): There will be an activity log put into google classroom and will also be available in hard-copy in the school office. The PAL will be worth the majority of your grade. 25 Points for each weekly log. See attached. Students will be required to participate in moderate-vigorous exercise for at least 30-40 minutes five days a week. Please log in to your parent portal and read and sign the Parent Agreement. We are going into uncharted territories and we need your help. Everything that we have learned about the prevention of COVID-19 has indicated that we are only as strong as our weakest link. We, as a district, have worked hard to create systems that minimize the risks to our students and staff, but there may still be risk present. Please sign that you will take the following steps to keep the whole community safe and allow use to continue to offer in-person classes with our students. Daily Symptom Checklist

I/We will commit...

to complete the daily symptom check of my student before I place them on a bus or send them to campus
to notify my student's school if there are any health concerns and take the steps outlined in the Daily Symptom Checklist.
to sending my child to school with a mask and support the school in making sure all students are compliant in all safety protocols.
I understand that even with all safety precautions that are being taken, there is always the risk that exposure to COVID-19 may occur.

Harvest of the Month:

This month students will be tasting honey from Black Sierra Honey Company. Did you know the flavor and color of honey can change depending on where it's harvested and what type of flower the bees visit. Raw honey is high in antioxidants, which help boost the immune system, and can be used as a sleep aid or to heal wounds and burns. Honey is still high in sugar and calories, but it contains vitamins and minerals, which white sugar doesn't. The practice of beekeeping is called "apiculture."

Each grade will have a winner (or 2).

A winner's poem and a winner's artwork will be published in the2020-2021 yearbook.

Poem requirements

The poem may be free verse and of any style

The poem may only be a maximum of 4 stanzas or 16 lines

The poem will be due by March 19 and send Poem to [email protected]

Artwork

Artwork must be from a school project - Core class OR Elective

Please include your name and the name of the artwork

Please take a picture and email it to [email protected]

The artwork will be due by March 19

If you plan on participating in a sport, you must fill out an athletic clearance form. Please make sure all parent signatures and student signatures have been signed. The forms are available in the office.

This month students will be tasting honey from Black Sierra Honey Company. Did you know the flavor and color of honey can change depending on where it's harvested and what type of flower the bees visit. Raw honey is high in antioxidants, which help boost the immune system, and can be used as a sleep aid or to heal wounds and burns. Honey is still high in sugar and calories, but it contains vitamins and minerals, which white sugar doesn't. The practice of beekeeping is called "apiculture."

The route list for the bus stops at Alta Sierra, Cottage Hill, and Magnolia is attached. Families must have already filled out a ridership contract in order for their students to ride the bus.

The School Bell Schedules for students in the Hybrid Learning Models at the Elementary and Intermediate schools are in the above link.

Physical Education: Students are going to develop their physical abilities through a movement oriented program. There will not be in-person instruction but rather only distance learning physical education. We will gain the benefits of physical activity and developing healthy habits together virtually through their Google Classroom.

Google Classroom

This is where you will see the syllabus, assignments, activities, videos and communication. Students can access this through their google email and going to the waffle (google applications). Please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Griffin through google classroom or email [email protected]. Physical Activity Log (PAL): There will be an activity log put into google classroom and will also be available in hard-copy in the school office. The PAL will be worth the majority of your grade. 25 Points for each weekly log. See attached. Students will be required to participate in moderate-vigorous exercise for at least 30-40 minutes five days a week. This will vary between required workouts posted in google classroom and student’s choice.

Thank you Leo Club for making goodie bags for the Hospitality House. The students decorated each bag and packed over 75 bags! We had enough to make about 6 "family" bags with more in them. We also had left over donations of top ramen, granola bars, cheese crackers, canned foods, socks and water bottles. The students also made thank you posters for the staff and uplifting posters for them to hang up. Thank you to everyone who contributed!

Congratulations to Mariposa Freeling for her third place win at the Nevada County Creative Writing Competition! Twenty (20) seventh and eighth grade students from eleven local schools were chosen as the best of their grade, to represent their school in the county-wide Creative Writing Competition.Their works were judged by a panel of six volunteer judges, made up of former teachers.

I just wanted to post a few new updates:

Covid Waiver

There is an extra waiver we are required to have both the athlete and the parent sign regarding Covid regulations and requirements. Please sign and return by the first practice along with waivers from last email. (Attached at end of email...)

Meet info (ish)

The dates for meets are pretty solid, just waiting on time of day and exact location(the school listed is the host school, but may be holding meet in alternate location)

Here is round 1 of XC meets schedule:

3/10 - Union Hill

3/17 - Seven Hills

3/22 - Magnolia

4/7 - Chicago Park

*4/12 - Arete (smalls schools only)

**4/14 - Seven Hills (large schools only)

We are all scheduled for the first 4 meets,

* Arete meet(4/12) will only host small schools, so only Arete runners will attend

**The last meet (4/14) will be for Magnolia/CH only.

Still subject to change, but will know more soon!

Volleyball Clinic Interest Form

A girls 7th and 8th grade volleyball clinic will take place in the Magnolia Gym following Covid protocols. The schedule will be as follows:

~Distance learners would meet on Mondays from 1:30-3pm March 8th, 15th and 22nd.

Cross Country News from Coach Tamo:

The Nevada County Athletic League (NCAL) is permitting the cross country season to begin this spring. The season will be 6 weeks long, beginning March 1 and ending April 16. The week of spring break will not have any practices or meets.
The intention of this survey is to gather team roster information. Due to COVID guidelines and protocols, the practices and meets must follow strict guidelines. One in particular is that meets can only be run between two schools. I need to know the number of students in each grade who are interested in joining the team so we can schedule meets at the coaches’ meeting Wednesday evening. Due to the strict guidelines, many of the schools who usually host meets will not meet the COVID facility requirements this year. Because we have fewer venues and can only have two teams per meet, the number of races will be much less. We are hoping to have at least 4-6 races this season, but that is yet to be determined. The schools who can host are available on Mondays and Wednesdays, so practices will most likely run on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays. Final practice/meet schedule to be determined after the coaches meeting. Running on your own at home will be encouraged on non-practice days.
I am sharing all of this with you so you can make an informed decision as to whether running this season is the right choice for your child and family this year. I am super excited that we get to go out and run, but I want it to be clear that this will not be the same as in years past. I am determined to have a fun, safe, and exciting cross country season!"

We, as a district, have worked hard to create systems that minimize the risks to our students and staff, but there may still be risk present. Physical Education: Students are going to develop their physical abilities through a movement oriented program. There will not be in-person instruction but rather only distance learning physical education. We will gain the benefits of physical activity and developing healthy habits together virtually through their Google Classroom.

Google Classroom

This is where you will see the syllabus, assignments, activities, videos and communication. Students can access this through their google email and going to the waffle (google applications). Please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Griffin through google classroom or email [email protected]. Physical Activity Log (PAL): There will be an activity log put into google classroom and will also be available in hard-copy in the school office. The PAL will be worth the majority of your grade. 25 Points for each weekly log. See attached. Students will be required to participate in moderate-vigorous exercise for at least 30-40 minutes five days a week. This will vary between required workouts posted in google classroom and student’s choice.
