The goal is to make communication easy for our parents as they could be getting information from two schools and 5 teachers, all in one concise email.

Frozen yogurt will NOT be for sale  today.
 
7/8th Grade Students:
First Dance of the year is next Friday the 27th. The theme is BLACK LIGHT! Grab your permission slip today! Tickets are $5, and will go on sale starting Wednesday (9/18). *Tickets will not be on sale on Fridays* .  All permission slips are due Thursday 9/26.  Permissions slips and money will not be accepted at the dance.  Magnolia School rules apply, you also must have your ID card to attend the dance.
 
DC/NY Trip:
Mrs. Glomson will be collecting the money for the Jamba Juice Fundraiser cards, also any unsold cards that you need to turn in. She will have additional cards available to sell if you have sold all your cards and have turned your money in.  All money and unsold cards are due by Wed. 9/26. I will be available every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday during  morning break and lunch in the Opportunity Center.

Did you know the themed 6th grade baskets at Bid N Barrels help raise monies for Science Camp?Did you know YOU too can help with this fabulous and FUN Fundraiser? BNB is still collecting donations and you can help by asking a friend, neighbor, business or even yourself if they(you) would be willing to donate a service or item to our event. OR in mid September you can help by being creatively crafty and help us create the beautiful basket to auctioned at our event.  Please contact Vivian at [email protected]

Library Book Fair News:  The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school! You are invited to join your child and help him/her find the books he/she will enjoy reading. The Fair begins:October 2nd thru October 10th Here are some tips to consider before you visit: Take a look at our booklist flyer to see a sample of the great titles that will be available. Many parents find it helpful to make a wish list ahead of time. Please use the link below for more information.

Bring a picnic to eat on the farm with your friends and family. Harvest menu posted on Sierra Harvest's Facebook page weekly. Calfresh (EBT) welcome!

As our kids head back to school, it's the perfect time to make sure as parents, teachers and educators we are educated as well. 
The Partnership for Drug-Free Kids released a great guide for parents.

Saturday, October 12th, will be the next United Way Food Access Saturday. The Food Access Saturday program was originally created to help working individuals & families who need help putting food on their table, but are unable to pick up food at local food distributions during the week. Since it began, the program has grown to encompass a larger population; welcoming others to the table. Through the Food Access Saturday program, anyone who needs food can pick up healthy groceries, including fresh produce. The program is open to all Nevada County residents who cannot make it to other food distributions Monday through Friday. United Way of Nevada County, in partnership with Interfaith Food Ministry (IFM) distributes food on the second Saturday of each month. Since its inception, nearly 3800 bags of food have been distributed to more than 1700 individuals and families.

United Way of Nevada County strives to assure individuals and families in Nevada County are able to meet their basic need for food, emergency shelter and access to health care. The distributions take place at 440 Henderson Street, in Grass Valley, from 10am-noon on the 2nd Saturday of each month. For more information contact United Way at 274-8111 or [email protected].

Dress Code: Please make sure your student's clothing is meeting Magnolia's dress code. The dress code is in the student agenda. If you have any questions please feel free to call or check in with the office. Thank you.

Parents: Please be prepared to show a picture ID when checking your student out during the school day.
 
Parking lot Etiquette:
Please remember when picking up your student after school to keep the line moving in a safe manner. If your student is not ready to be picked up please park in a parking spot, you can also pick up in the Cottage Hill basketball parking lot.  Student safety should be everyone's first priority.  Also please do not pull into the bus circle during bus arrival and departure times.
 
Monday through Thursday school starts at 9:05 and is dismissed at 3:15
Friday school starts at 9:05 and is dismissed at 2:25
Minimum Day Schedule school starts at 9:05 and is dismissed at 1:20
Please remember that Magnolia does not have any campus supervision until 8:40am. Students may not be on campus until then. Thank you for your cooperation!

Congratulations to the Cross Country students who ran in the Nevada Union Invitational on Saturday in the Jr High division.  Girls came in 3rd place overall average team score and our Boys placed 1st! 
Girls: Hailey Brenes (8th), Shelby Garten(24th), Eden Cha(27th), Margarent Ralston(30th), Phaedra Eaton(41st) and Amber Blanton(42nd) , (Quinn Tamo(26th) and Sage O'Brien(22nd) from Arete were added to the Magnolia Team for this event as well)
Boys: Taven Duffy(10th), Jackson Shafer (11th),  Nathan Yenser (14th), Jelani George (16th), Grayer Bertuccelli (18th), Gunner Poppleton( 20th) and Izaak Sharp (25th).
 
All Students:
Please remember you must wait in the quad area while waiting for your bus, if your bus has arrived and is parked you may proceed to line up.  Also, if your bus has arrived please do not linger , board the bus if it has arrived and is parked, as this keeps the buses running on time.  If you need a bus pass to ride a different bus please remember to bring a signed note from your parent to the office during lunch.
 
September is attendance month,  we will be having our first attendance challenge which will start today thru Sept 30th. The top five advisory groups with the best attendance will win an ice cream treat and extended lunch period. Party to be held on Oct 2nd after lunch.

Did you miss the meeting? It is not too late to sign up for the DC/NYC trip. There is a $25 discount if you sign up by September 15th.  Also, there are scholarships available through Worldstrides at WorldStrides-Online Registration   You can contact them directly to see if you are eligible.  The scholarships are on a first come first serve basis.  If you have any questions you can contact Tina Toft at [email protected].

The Food Access Saturday program was originally created to help working individuals & families who need help putting food on their table, but are unable to pick up food at local food distributions during the week. Since it began, the program has grown to encompass a larger population; welcoming others to the table. Through the Food Access Saturday program, anyone who needs food can pick up healthy groceries, including fresh produce. The program is open to all Nevada County residents who cannot make it to other food distributions Monday through Friday. United Way of Nevada County, in partnership with Interfaith Food Ministry (IFM) distributes food on the second Saturday of each month. Since its inception, nearly 3800 bags of food have been distributed to more than 1700 individuals and families.

United Way of Nevada County strives to assure individuals and families in Nevada County are able to meet their basic need for food, emergency shelter and access to health care. The distributions take place at 440 Henderson Street, in Grass Valley, from 10am-noon on the 2nd Saturday of each month. For more information contact United Way at 274-8111 or [email protected].

Saturday, September 14th, will be the next United Way Food Access Saturday. The Food Access Saturday program was originally created to help working individuals & families who need help putting food on their table, but are unable to pick up food at local food distributions during the week. Since it began, the program has grown to encompass a larger population; welcoming others to the table. Through the Food Access Saturday program, anyone who needs food can pick up healthy groceries, including fresh produce. The program is open to all Nevada County residents who cannot make it to other food distributions Monday through Friday. United Way of Nevada County, in partnership with Interfaith Food Ministry (IFM) distributes food on the second Saturday of each month. Since its inception, nearly 3800 bags of food have been distributed to more than 1700 individuals and families.

United Way of Nevada County strives to assure individuals and families in Nevada County are able to meet their basic need for food, emergency shelter and access to health care. The distributions take place at 440 Henderson Street, in Grass Valley, from 10am-noon on the 2nd Saturday of each month. For more information contact United Way at 274-8111 or [email protected].

Please do not bring pump spray or aerosol deodorants/perfumes to school, these items are not allowed.

Please make sure to put your name on your water bottles, string bags and personal items, this helps to return these items to the owner.  We also have some lunch boxes and clothing items in the lost and found to be claimed.

Students:
 
Attention 8th graders who are interested in learning more about the Washington DC/New York City trip in June, there will be an informational meeting on Wednesday, September 4th at lunch in A5/A6. We will have candy!
 
Frozen yogurt will be for sale today in C4.  Cost is $2.00, to help the line run smoothly please bring exact change. Flavors include rootbeer float, cookies n cream, vanilla/chocolate swirl, strawberry shortcake, chocolate/mint swirl, strawberry shortcake, chocolate/mint swirl, salted caramel, cake battter.

Bear River Recreation & Park District information flyers are available in the office. Registration is open for Farm to Table Culinary Class and Performing Arts Workshop.

Please note that some unutilized morning stops on Route 28 (Cottage Hill and Magnolia) have been inactivated. If a stop needs to be reactivated please contact your school secretary right away.
 
Sixth Grade Parents:
Science Camp packets were handed out at back to school night, if you were not able to attend one will be sent home with your student. A Science Camp deposit of $70.00 will be due by September 3rd.
 
Dress Code:
Although the weather is still very warm, please make sure your student's clothing is meeting Magnolia's dress code. The dress code is in the student agenda. If you have any questions please feel free to call or check in with the office. Thank you.
 
Saturday, September 14th, will be the next United Way Food Access Saturday. The Food Access Saturday program was originally created to help working individuals & families who need help putting food on their table, but are unable to pick up food at local food distributions during the week. Since it began, the program has grown to encompass a larger population; welcoming others to the table. Through the Food Access Saturday program, anyone who needs food can pick up healthy groceries, including fresh produce. The program is open to all Nevada County residents who cannot make it to other food distributions Monday through Friday. United Way of Nevada County, in partnership with Interfaith Food Ministry (IFM) distributes food on the second Saturday of each month. Since its inception, nearly 3800 bags of food have been distributed to more than 1700 individuals and families.

United Way of Nevada County strives to assure individuals and families in Nevada County are able to meet their basic need for food, emergency shelter and access to health care. The distributions take place at 440 Henderson Street, in Grass Valley, from 10am-noon on the 2nd Saturday of each month. For more information contact United Way at 274-8111 or [email protected].

Parents: Please be prepared to show a picture ID when checking your student out during the school day.
 
Parking lot Etiquette:
Please remember when picking up your student after school to keep the line moving in a safe manner. If your student is not ready to be picked up please park in a parking spot, you can also pick up in the Cottage Hill basketball parking lot.  Student safety should be everyone's first priority.  Also please do not pull into the bus circle during bus arrival and departure times.
 
Monday through Thursday school starts at 9:05 and is dismissed at 3:15
Friday school starts at 9:05 and is dismissed at 2:25
Minimum Day Schedule school starts at 9:05 and is dismissed at 1:20
Please remember that Magnolia does not have any campus supervision until 8:40am. Students may not be on campus until then. Thank you for your cooperation!
