Daily Bulletin February 5, 2018

This week our students will be tasting organic carrots in their science classes as their Harvest of the Month.These carrots are from Mountain Bounty Farm in Nevada City. Carrots are an excellent source of Vitamin A which is needed for proper development of our eyes, skin, and many other parts of our bodies. 

7/8th grade "Heart to Heart Dance" permission slips are available,  and can be turned in at lunch this week.  All permission slips must be turned in by Thursday, February 8th.  You must also have your ID card to be admitted to the dance.  Cost is $5.00 or $10.00 for the meal deal, time is 7-9 PM on February 9th. 

The 8th grade boys basketball team had a big win against Forest Lake on 2/1. 54-32. The Rattler scorers were Harrison Alexander 10, Dylan Neuharth 8, Zion Le Pera 8, Tyler Neuharth 6, Carter Nunnink 6, Alex Madrid 5, Daniel Bamburg 5, Freedom Brown 2, Ryder Kiggins 2, and Matt Riley 2. Congratulations to Coach Mulholland and the entire team!

Literacy Contest:
Higgins Diggins Lions Club is sponsoring its ANNUAL Literacy Contest during the month of February. Three lucky Magnolia students will win $50.00 Gift Certificates to Best Buy.  One gift certificate is given out per grade level. Students are eligible for the contest by reading books at their teacher's recommended level, taking AR quizzes and passing quizzes by 80% or more! They are automatically entered each time they take an Accelerated Reader quiz that meets the above criteria. Thanks to Higgins Diggins Lions Club for sponsoring this award winning contest for Magnolia Intermediate School. 
 
Froyo February:
February is Perfect Attendance Month. Students who are here for every day during the month with no tardies,  do not check in  late or check out early (regardless of reason) will be awarded a certificate for a FREE frozen yogurt! 
 

Nevada County STEAM EXPO 2018:

The Purpose of the Nevada County STEAM Expo is to stimulate an active interest in science, technology, engineering, art, and math by engaging in original investigations, experiences, and demonstrations. To foster the potential of Nevada County students that will lead to future careers in these fields and to support the California State Standards. Food Access Saturday:

Uniting to Support Working Families is specifically designed for working individuals and families who need supplemental groceries. The collaboration encourages those who have been struggling with food insecurity, but due to working traditional hours, have never received supplemental food support from IFM to participate in Food Access Saturday.

What ~ Food Access Saturday For ~ Any working individuals & families who need food can participate. Current IFM clients, who are working and find it difficult or sometimes impossible to come during the weekly distribution, are also welcome to participate on Saturday. New clients will need to provide a picture ID, proof of residency in Nevada County and Social Security numbers for all those in the family.

Parenting the Love and Logic Way:

Session #2 February 8, 5:30-7:30PM Cottage Hill Library, cost is FREE. The sessions will start on time and end on time. The scheduled dates of session 2 are  2/8, 2/15, 2/22, 3/1, 3/8.  Free child care will be provided.

Parents: Please be prepared to show a picture ID when checking your student out during the school day.

Homework Club:
Tuesday / Friday - 8:00am - 8:45am in room A-1
Wednesday - 3:30pm - 4:15pm in room B-10
Thursday - 8:00 am - 8:45 in room A-4  most weeks.  Please check the bulletin and Magnolia calendar.
