The Bear River Dance Program is having dance tryouts on May 10th  at 2:45 at BRHS in the small gym.
 
Library:
Author/Illustrator R.M. Winch is coming to speak to Magnolia students Thursday May 16th! This is a rare and exciting opportunity for our school. He will be featuring his book "Space Pilgrim" and highlighting topics on publishing, illustration and character development. To find out more visit https://www.ryanwinch.com/. Attention 6th and 7th Graders:
“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” These words were spoken by President John Quincy Adams.
If you are a great leader like President Adams, then consider becoming part of the Magnolia Student Council for the 2018-2019 school year. Activities include planning for spirit days, dances, and fundraisers, and attending monthly meetings. Officer positions are 8th grade president, 8th grade vice-president, 7th grade president, 7th grade vice-president, public relations, treasurer, and secretary. Applications are in the Magnolia Office and are due back by May 24th. 
 
Chipotle Fundraiser: The Odyssey team is hosting a fundraiser at Chipotle! Bring this linked flyer (or just mention our school name), to Chipotle in Auburn on Saturday, May 11th between 4:00 and 8:00. Thirty three percent of each order gets donated to the team. This is a great opportunity to support your school! 
 
Holiday Market Bake Sale: The Odyssey team will be working to raise money for their upcoming trip by hosting a Bake Sale from 3:00-6:00 on Friday, May 10th in front of Holiday Market. We hope to see you there!
 
Track  5/9 Party/Awards Thursday 3:30-5:15on lower field - parents encouraged to attend.

Sierra Harvest News:
The student council will be hosting plant sales during May 8-10.
After school, and in the main office.
 
There will be an 8th-grade valedictorian meeting on Tuesday, May 14, and Thursday, May 16 at lunch in Mrs. Daniels's room, D-3. Bring your lunch and please be prompt!

Parents' Corner:
 
Science Camp: If you want to order a camp picture, you can order it online. Parents need to go to allianceredwoods.com and then click on Outdoor Education, then you click on "store" then you click on outdoor education again. Once there scroll down and look for  Class Photo. Then type in School name, their student's name  and our arrival date of May 20. It will also ask for shipping, check "will call" Cost total will be $12.42 (this includes tax.) The picture will be sent to Magnolia. Parents need to order before we leave on Friday the 24th to get free shipping. After that date, they can still order, but they will have to pay for shipping.

We need officers for the next school year (2019-2020). We need all parents' help and support. We will be voting on the next school year's officers at this PTM meeting on Thursday May 9th at 5:30. Please offer your time and/or nominate someone who will be a good fit for President, Treasurer or Secretary. Without these held positions, there cannot be a PTM organization. PTM is vital to school fundraising for school supplies, activities, teacher appreciation, chromebooks and much much more. Thank you!"

Saturday, May 11th, will be the next United Way Food Access Saturday. The Food Access Saturday program was originally created to help working individuals & families who need help putting food on their table, but are unable to pick up food at local food distributions during the week. Since it began, the program has grown to encompass a larger population; welcoming others to the table. Through the Food Access Saturday program, anyone who needs food can pick up healthy groceries, including fresh produce. The program is open to all Nevada County residents who cannot make it to other food distributions Monday through Friday. United Way of Nevada County, in partnership with Interfaith Food Ministry (IFM) distributes food on the second Saturday of each month. Since its inception, nearly 3800 bags of food have been distributed to more than 1700 individuals and families.

United Way of Nevada County strives to assure individuals and families in Nevada County are able to meet their basic need for food, emergency shelter and access to health care. The distributions take place at 440 Henderson Street, in Grass Valley, from 10am-noon on the 2nd Saturday of each month. For more information contact United Way at 274-8111 or [email protected].
 
Calendar:
Due to the missed school days on November 16th and February 5th, we will be having school on both April 22nd and June 7th. April 22nd will be a regular day schedule and June 7th will be a minimum day schedule.

Parking lot Etiquette:
Please remember when picking up your student after school to keep the line moving in a safe manner. If your student is not ready to be picked up please park in a parking spot, you can also pick up in the Cottage Hill basketball parking lot.  Student safety should be everyone's first priority.
