Students:

It’s been a busy week for the Boys 8th Grade basketball team with away game victories at Seven Hills (57-18) and Lyman Gilmore (50-34).Leading scorers for the week are Kaden (8), Dustin (16), Holden (13), Brady (11), Tyler (18) and Ryder (16) with Jess, John-John and Breyan making key buckets for the Rattlers.

Starmakers/Bella Voce Pancake Breakfast Cabaret:

Saturday, February 1st, 8am-12:pm. Tickets are $8.00 per person (kids 5 and under free) Family of Four $25.00, includes a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage, pancakes, fruit and beverages. The Magnolia Starmakers and Bella Voce Choirs will be hosting and performing at this fun family event! Tickets may be purchased from Starmakers/Bella Voce members, Mr. Richardson, Choir Director or at the door.

Poetry Contest Poems are Due Next Week:

The Yearbook crew is having a poetry contest. Each grade will have a winner. The winner's poem will be published in the 2019-2020 yearbook. Each winner will also receive a free fro yo. Poem requirements: The poem may be free verse and of any style , may only be a maximum of 4 stanzas or 16 lines. It will be due February 4th.

Frozen yogurt will be for sale in C4 today during lunch. Flavors include salted caramel, cafe mocha, vanilla/chocolate swirl, cookies n cream, chocolate/mint swirl, rootbeer float, cake batter, strawberry shortcake , orange sorbet and limencello/vanilla swirl.

Parents Corner:

The Magnolia Wood-shop Class is in need of some "hardwood" or "softwood". If you have or know of anyone who is able to donate wood, the class would love to have any and all that you could spare. Dimensional lumber is preferred.

All Parents: There is a new way to collect Box Tops for Education for Magnolia School. All you need is your phone. Download the All-New Box Tops app. Shop as you normally would, then simply scan your store receipts to find participation products. The app will automatically credit your school's Box Top earnings online.

Magnolia Leo Club is sponsoring a contest to collect Box Tops for Education. From now until February 14, bring in Box Tops for Education to your first period class. The class with the most eligible box tops will receive a rootbeer float party. Mrs. Randall

Flowing Through History-The Bridgeport Bridge Restoration Project is a Nevada County Superintendent of Schools student competition for grades K-12. The challenge is to create a poster, painting or collage depicting the history of the South Yuba River State Park and the Bridgeport Covered Bridge. The permission slips are available in the office. Project deadline is February 28th. Winners will be first to cross the Covered Bridge and Cash Prizes will be awarded for each grade level.

Sierra Harvest News:

This month Harvest of the Month is Kiwi. Our students tasted Kiwi this week. Kiwi has a unique flavor that some people compare to a combination of strawberries and bananas. The whole fruit, including the skin, is edible. Kiwi is rich in in nutrients and low in calories. It is particularly rich in vitamin C, vitamin K, antioxidants, and fiber. Sponsored by Briar Patch Co Op. U-Pick your own fresh, organic, seasonal produce and flowers every Tuesday from 4:30 to 6:30pm at the Food Love Farm<https://sierraharvest.org/children-connect-to-fresh-food/upick-at-food-love-farm/>, benefitting farm to school education for 9,500 students. Bring a picnic to eat on the farm with your friends and family. Harvest menu posted on Sierra Harvest's Facebook page weekly. Calfresh (EBT) welcome!

Saturday, February 8th, will be the next United Way Food Access Saturday. The Food Access Saturday program was originally created to help working individuals & families who need help putting food on their table, but are unable to pick up food at local food distributions during the week. Since it began, the program has grown to encompass a larger population; welcoming others to the table. Through the Food Access Saturday program, anyone who needs food can pick up healthy groceries, including fresh produce. The program is open to all Nevada County residents who cannot make it to other food distributions Monday through Friday. United Way of Nevada County, in partnership with Interfaith Food Ministry (IFM) distributes food on the second Saturday of each month. Since its inception, nearly 3800 bags of food have been distributed to more than 1700 individuals and families. United Way of Nevada County strives to assure individuals and families in Nevada County are able to meet their basic need for food, emergency shelter and access to health care. The distributions take place at 440 Henderson Street, in Grass Valley, from 10am-noon on the 2nd Saturday of each month. For more information contact United Way at 274-8111 or [email protected].
