Parents Corner:

We wanted families to know about an interesting local program open to middle school students.

YMCA Model United Nations is a program for middle school students (grades 6-8) designed to promote engagement with, and understanding of, their world. The program relies on an experience-based model, where participants learn by doing - collaboratively developing solutions to real world issues and presenting them to their peers and international experts. Over the course of the program participants will learn the history and purpose of the UN, improve their grasp of world geography, discuss and debate major international issues, and gain an appreciation for multiple world cultures.

2021 YMCA Model United Nations program registration is now open. You're invited to join us for our Family Information Zoom next Tuesday, January 12 from 5-6pm.  Zoom links are at the end of this email.

The program structure includes weekly delegation meetings, three cultural events (approximately 45-60 minutes each) and 2 regional conferences (2-3 hours per day) with participants from across Northern California.  Due to Covid-19 all programming for the 2021 program will be virtual

Meetings: Tuesdays from 5-6:30pm starting January 19, 2021

Conference Dates: April 18 and May 22-23

Cultural Events: March 9, April 6, and May 11

Program Cost: $250.00 - Financial Assistance Available

For our returning Ambassadors, we will be uniting as one delegation this year - the Capitol Coalition Delegation - and look forward to welcoming new participants from throughout our YMCA service area which stretches from Oroville to El Dorado Hills to Yolo County, to all of Sacramento. It's one benefit to our virtual format for sure! We've been running our virtual high school program since August and have learned a lot along the way. This year's MUN program builds from what we have learned in the virtual space since last year and our program has been significantly refined to match both the virtual world and the context of our times.

Topic: Capitol Coalition MUN Info Session

Time: Jan 12, 2021 05:00 PM Pacific Time (US and Canada)

Ghidotti Early College High School is now accepting applications for the 2022 school year. Application deadline is January 29, 2021. Information and the application are available at
A note about this year: COVID has impacted just about every aspect of our lives and Ghidotti's application process is no different. Most years we screen applicants to make sure they're at grade-level (ready for 9th grade math, English, and Biology), but this year the usual measurements are either unavailable or unreliable. So, we're going to assume all applicants are at grade-level. If there are more applicants than spaces available, selection will be made through a lottery.

January 4th - 15th Zoom Schedule

All students will have a live Zoom every day Monday-Friday.

Social-Emotional Support

Nightly Check-In

Parents of Hybrid/Blended Students:

Please log in to your parent portal and read and sign the Parent Agreement. We are going into uncharted territories and we need your help. Everything that we have learned about the prevention of COVID-19 has indicated that we are only as strong as our weakest link. We, as a district, have worked hard to create systems that minimize the risks to our students and staff, but there may still be risk present. Please sign that you will take the following steps to keep the whole community safe and allow use to continue to offer in-person classes with our students. Daily Symptom Checklist

I/We will commit...

  • to complete the daily symptom check of my student before I place them on a bus or send them to campus
  • to notify my student's school if there are any health concerns and take the steps outlined in the Daily Symptom Checklist.
  • to sending my child to school with a mask and support the school in making sure all students are compliant in all safety protocols.
  • I understand that even with all safety precautions that are being taken, there is always the risk that exposure to COVID-19 may occur.

Thank you for supporting our schools.

Physical Education: Students are going to develop their physical abilities through a movement oriented program. There will not be in-person instruction but rather only distance learning physical education.  We will gain the benefits of physical activity and developing healthy habits together virtually through their Google Classroom.

Google Classroom

This is where you will see the syllabus, assignments, activities, videos and communication.  Students can access this through their google email and going to the waffle (google applications). Please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Griffin through google classroom or email [email protected]. Physical Activity Log (PAL): There will be an activity log put into google classroom and will also be available in hard-copy in the school office.  The PAL will be worth the majority of your grade.  25 Points for each weekly log. See attached. Students will be required to participate in moderate-vigorous exercise for at least 30-40 minutes five days a week. This will vary between required workouts posted in google classroom and student’s choice.
