Sierra Harvest

Our last Harvest of the Month will be on May 2nd in our science classes. The students will be tasting the vegetable Kohlrabi. This unique vegetable is grown at JSM Orbganics in Aromas, California. Kohlrabi looks like a turnip, but grows above ground. The Sierra Harvest program is committed to introducing students to locally grown fruits and vegetables. Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that provides the books kids want to read. It's a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Reading for pleasure inside and outside of school has real and long-lasting benefits. It unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Please make plans to come to our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child's reading habits. Can't make it to the Book Fair? You can shop online also from April 15th through the 27th! South County School Safety Forum

In response to recent concerns regarding school safety, there will be a South County School Safety Forum on Monday, May 7th from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at the Bear River High School theater.

We will have representation from:
· Nevada County Sheriff’s Office
· California Highway Patrol
· Higgins Fire Department
· Nevada County Office of Emergency Services
· Nevada County Superintendent of Schools Office
· South County School Administrators

All parents and community members are invited to attend. You will learn about what plans and procedures are in place to ensure the safety of our students, and what you can/should do in the case of a school emergency.

Love & Logic Classes - Cancelled

Unfortunately there were not enough parents interested in the classes, so the third session at Alta Sierra has been cancelled. The program will be offered again in the fall.

Changes to the After School Rec Program

Due to the increased number of late student pick-ups from the After School Recreation Program, the late fee is increasing effective January 1, 2018. The new rate will be $10.00 plus $1.00 per minute for each student.
