Good Evening Rattlers!

The Mandarin Sale is On!
Order forms for the Magnolia Student Council Annual Mandarin Sale are available now in the school office and on the school website. Order forms and payments can be turned in to the office by November 18th. Newcastle Mandarin Ranch reports an abundant crop of juicy, sweet, and delicious fruit, due in part to the warm weather. A 10 lb. bag is only $14.00, and proceeds directly benefit Magnolia student activities. This year's delivery date is Thursday, November 19th.  Please visit the Magnolia website for mandarin recipes and order forms!

Thank you, Magnolia families, for participating in this year’s Joker's Wild Fall Fundraiser! It has been a huge success. Raising money for updating the library was this year's focus.  Be looking for good reads coming soon.

Here are the tentative dates for distributing Fall Fundraiser prizes:

  • Wednesday, October 28th in first period class - Prizes & coupons will be distributed, including gift certificates to: LaserCraze, Studio Movie & Grill, Skatetown, and 49er Fun Park!                              Please remind your students to treat all the gift cards & coupons like cash; they are NOT replaceable!
 
  • Thursday, October 29th before school starts - Donuts & PJ’s: donuts will be given out in front of the office to those who earned this prize. Students need to have their coupon! PJ’s that are dress code approved can be worn to school. Again, students MUST have the coupon and present it to staff on request!
 
  • Thursday, October 29th lunchtime - Grab bags at lunch! Cash in your 4 Jokers Wild grab bag coupons for prizes. Be sure to pick up your sodas, candy, school gift certificates & other earned prizes right then.  This is the only day to redeem your items.  No holds! If your child is absent a staff member will pick your bags and prizes will be waiting in the office. 
 
  • Friday, November 6th during school hours -Lunchtime in the library. Bring your lunch, your coupon & a friend. Mrs. Sharon will hand out treats and show a movie. (This is 1 of the many grab bag prizes.)
 
  • TBA, soon & during school hours - Games on Wheelz will host the students who earned this prize, plus 1 of their friends!
 

Remember, ALL COUPONS ARE EQUIVALENT TO CASH. You MUST have your coupon in order to receive your prize.

It has been wonderful seeing all the book requests come in. Thanks again, for helping make Magnolia wonderful!

Mystery Books - can't judge a book by its cover, so we covered them up! The first line of the first chapter is on the outside of the book. If the first line entices, then students check-out, read and write an online review, due October 30th. Treats rewarded for reading and writing a review.

Students can write online reviews for their peers by accessing Alexandria Researcher from the Magnolia Website/Student Links/Researcher. Type in the title of the books, star it and write review. All reviews are subject to review before posting.
 
Overdue Notices will go out Tuesday, October 27th. Please remind your students to renew or return their library books before then. (Mrs. Sharon)
 
 
 

Attention Washington D.C. and New York Travelers. This Saturday is our community clean-up/S.T.R.I.V.E Fund raiser. It will be at the Kidder Cemetery from 9:00 to 2:00. See Mr. Croft for Details.

Boys Volleyball:  7th grade boys-interested in Volleyball?  Its not too late, get your athletic packet from the office and come to practice from 3:30 to 5:00 on Monday.
 
Girls Basketball:
 
The 7th Grade Lady Rattlers won against Union Hill 23-20 on Wednesday. The Lady Rattlers were led by Sharon Rich with 11 points.
 
 
The 8th Grade Lady Rattlers won again with a 34-17 victory over Union Hill. Gabi Corralejo led the scoring with 11 points and Katelin Holtz tossed in 10 points.  Peighton Coffey also contributed offensively with 6 points.  The defense was led by Corralejo's tenacious play.

Annual Higgins Diggins Peace Poster ContestThe theme is "Share Peace."  Contest is open to students who will be 11, 12 or 13 years of age on Nov. 15, 2015.  Complete rules are available in the office.  Posters are due in the office on or before Oct. 30 by 3:00pm.  The winning poster will receive $25 and advance to the next level with a chance at the International grand prize of $5,000.  (Mrs. Randall)

Good Evening Rattlers!
 
Wednesday we are on "A" Schedule. 8th grade Girls Basketball will be released at 2:45.
 
 
The following students were selected to represent Magnolia for the 6th grade county spelling tournament on November 3rd:  Amy Ismail, Maddie Albee and Ryder Holcomb.  Thank you to everyone who took the test today. (Mrs. Donley)
 
 
7th and 8th Grade Spelling Competition
All interested 7th and 8th grade students are invited to Room A4 during lunch tomorrow to test for the Nevada County Spelling Competition. The top spellers will be competing on November 5th at the Miners Foundry in Nevada City.

Sports:
 
The 8th Grade Lady Rattlers picked up their 4th win of the season on Thursday, beating Forest Lake 25-15.  Scoring for the Rattlers was led by Katelin Holtz and Gabby Corralejo with 8 points apiece, Bailey Tramel had 4 and Sam Giguiere tossed in 3.  The Lady Rattler defense proved to be stingy again giving up only 6 points in the first half and 9 in the second.  Next game is after the break, Wednesday October 21, against Union Hill.
 
 
Boys Volleyball Tryouts will begin as soon as we are back from fall break.  If you are interested in trying out you need to get an athletic clearance packet from the office and turn it in before you come to the tryouts.  Pick one up now. (Mr. Smith)
 
 
There is still time to register for Bear River Rec & Park District's fun, fall activities:
Register online at brrpd.org for  Fall Break Water Polo and Fall Flag Football.
 
And don't miss the early deadlines for Winter Youth Basketball League, now partnering with Kings NEXT youth development! Register online at brrpd.org

The 7th grade Lady Rattlers struck hard with a win 28-21 against Seven Hills on Tuesday! Kylie Scaglione led with 13 points, Sharon Rich with 7 points, Kaedyn Harrison with 4, and 2 points each from Sabrina Watkins and Nikki Scaglione. Sharon and Kylie battled relentlessly under the boards with support from Sabrina and Kaedyn. In the 4th quarter Seven Hills made a strong run against our girls but outstanding defense from Emily Tellis and Ava Tamo held their run. Congratulations to all the girls.
 
 
The 8th Grade Lady Rattlers played another tightly contested ball game against Seven Hills, but fell a little short 46-39.  Katelin Holtz led all scorers with 28 points. Peighton Coffey had 5 points, Sam Giguiere and Gabby Corralejo each tossed in 4 points.  The team defense was tough and they battled hard to the last buzzer. The Lady Rattlers play Forest Lake at home, game time 4:00, this Thursday.  Come out and support your team!

 Sports:

 
 
In a tough home game against Weimar on Tuesday, our 7th grade Lady Rattlers took a loss 21-35. Sabrina Watkins led the Rattlers with 8 points followed by Kylie Scaglione with 6. Sharon Rich led in rebounds and also scored 4 points, and Nikki Scaglione tossed in 3. A strong defense kept the Lady Rattlers in it for most of the game. Great defensive efforts by Kaedyn Harrison, Ava Tamo and the rest of the team.
 
The 8th Grade Lady Rattlers battled hard but also fell to visiting Weimar 42-22.  Samantha Giguiere and Katelin Holtz led the Rattlers with 8 points apiece.  The defense was led by a hustling Gabby Corralejo, Bailey Tramel and Peighton Coffey.  The Lady Rattlers play at home again today versus Seven Hills at 4:00.

 

Final Cross Country meet at Empire Mine:  Wednesday at 3:00 (release time: 1:20)

 

Girls Basketball:   Home vs. Forest Lake Thursday at 4:00  (8th grade only)

Good Evening Rattlers!
 
 
Tomorrow, Monday,  we will be on  "A" Schedule.  Release time is 3:15.
 
 
Sports:
 
 
Congratulations and THANK YOU to Magnolia Runners and their parents who hosted a stellar meet last Thursday for 16 area schools to visit and compete on our course.
 
6th Grade Girls,  Amy, Julia, Kara, Lillian, Emma, and Leilani  ran a great race with all in top medal positions and finishing 2nd overall, led by Lillian.
 
6th Grade Boys,  Angus, John, Derek, Paxton, and Morgan battled for 2nd led by Paxton in medal position.
 
7th Grade Girl Emily Adamson mastered the course for her medal finishing 2nd girl overall. 
 
7th Grade Boys Jake, Jared, Corbin, Cade, Noah, Grant, Kadin, Jacob, Aidan and Timothy once again dominated the field sweeping for first place led by Jake finishing first overall. 
 
8th Grade Trifecta  Jett, Caleb and Tommy all earned medals in top times and places, led by Caleb.
  
 
 
The 7th grade Lady Rattlers lost in a close game against Union Hill, 29-35.
 
 
The 8th Grade Lady Rattlers picked up a big win 42-12 over Union Hill at our  first home game of the season.  The Lady Rattlers were led by point guard Gabby Corralejo with 15 points.  Katelin Holtz and Bailey Tramel scored 10 and 9 points respectively and played tough defense.  Tramel was also strong on the boards. Peyton Coffey tossed in 4 points while River Jarman and Kylie Armbruster rounded out the scoring with 2 points apiece.  Katie Desplancke was strong defensively and rebounding.  The Lady Rattlers play away at Gilmore this Tuesday.

Good Evening Rattlers!
 
 
Thursday, September 24th, we are on "B" Schedule with Rattler Time. Cross Country will be released at 2:40pm to help set up the home meet.
 
 

Magnolia Leo Club meeting: Thursday, tomorrow during 7th/8th grade lunch in A-4.  Bring a friend - come eat your lunch - learn what we are all about.  (Mrs. Randall)

 

7th/8th grade students: If you were on the Track & Field team last spring, please look around for the yellow Magnolia jersey that you may not have turned in. Only a handful of them were turned in to the office last year, so our current Cross Country runners do not have jerseys to wear. Please bring them in ASAP. Thank you!

 

Reminder: One more day to collect donations for Joker's Wild prizes! Collect $28 and you get to wear pj's to school for a day and get donuts; Collect $60 and you get 4 grab bags, plus pj's to school & donuts; Collect $100 and you get either Movie passes, Ice skating, Lazer tag or 49er Fun Park, plus 4 grab bags & pj's to school & donuts; Collect $200 and get Gamez on Wheelz, plus the other stuff.  Packets are due in the office tomorrow!
